Will they follow the same line as Persimmon and look to boost profit from hammering the supply chain.

Comment on Euston HS2 station ‘could be cut to just seven platforms’ by James Earl Brown https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/civils/euston-hs2-station-could-be-cut-to-just-seven-platforms-31-07-2023/#comment-2008 Fri, 04 Aug 2023 13:05:39 +0000 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/?p=483561#comment-2008 Are u put a second phase of 4 platforms or 3 out of 11 or 10 HS2 Platforms, later or not?
If is later unlikely, then… – okay(?).
But if is not (on the other hand), then is just SEVEN HS2 platforms, because some expect to save money. Was it achievable??
I think NOT(!), because some rail web user’s or whatever – says it will mean unthinkable, as someone already know – was unachievable.

Q: Is there any change a plans for every- no, anything?
And if there any alternative are they?

Because at the end of the day, most of you’ll should reverse. Not only continued from South to North, but the other way phase’s, from North (Scotland) into South (England, and G. London), just like HS1, and Channel Tunnel.
So for me; I think you’ll should rethink ‘HSUK rail connect’ project, instead HS2 (alternatively), (also NPR(?)).
That’s all enough for what I think about, but do NOT official as Budget Cost, please(!), that’s why German ICE3 trains was unofficial data page it was, see. There(!)

Comment on Construction Leadership Council: waste of space or force for change? by Gordon Matheson https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/sections/long-reads/opinion/construction-leadership-council-waste-of-space-or-force-for-change-01-08-2023/#comment-2007 Thu, 03 Aug 2023 07:28:29 +0000 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/?p=483112#comment-2007 Good assessment of CLC, another government backed organisation that is stuck in the dark ages, just another talking shop where no real benefit comes through to the building industry or clients.

Comment on ULEZ expansion ‘bad news’ for construction industry, say trade bodies by Craig Stobie https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/government/ulez-expansion-bad-news-for-construction-industry-say-trade-bodies-01-08-2023/#comment-2006 Wed, 02 Aug 2023 12:35:59 +0000 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/?p=483635#comment-2006 Thats fine….it’ll serve Khan right when he loses both the trade and the ulez fees etc. if people move out….hit him where it hurts…in his pocket. Contractors will put their fees up to cover this cost, so ultimately it’ll be the customer that pays the costs…not a problem for Khan, until companies move out of the area, because they cannot afford to live there (which is probably what he wants anyway.

The industry does not want to “Employ” apprentices. Sure, the levy will pay for their course work. but they need that critical on the job experience to qualify.
Who is is going to employ an apprentice (PAYE), in a committed way for 2 to 4 years? At the moment precious few.

Comment on Decision on injunctions to restrain urban explorers awaited by Craig Stobie https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/sections/long-reads/opinion/decision-on-injunctions-to-restrain-urban-explorers-awaited-24-05-2023/#comment-2002 Wed, 31 May 2023 14:38:59 +0000 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/?p=479302#comment-2002 With the fact that site contractors can get heavily fined if someone trespasses onto a site, and they get hurt, it is a ridiculous state of affairs. It should be, quite simply against the law on health and safety grounds alone, to trespass onto a building site. Yet again, the courts are playing into the hands of the lawyers who are the only winners in such cases….conflict of interest, anyone…?

Comment on Construction management: worth another look? by julian Daniel https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/sections/long-reads/opinion/construction-management-worth-another-look-03-05-2023/#comment-2001 Thu, 04 May 2023 08:49:24 +0000 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/?p=478581#comment-2001 The cost escalation on some lump sum projects between appointing a Main Contractor for the 1st stage and them finalising their actual lump sum at the end of the 2nd stage, can be huge and many clients are left abused and helpless as time has ticked on and they have few options. I would never recommend this 2-Stage approach to a client unless they have future works they can dangle to keep the MC honest. Single Stage is the best option for cost certainty unless the client needs to change some aspect of the project. It is not flexible. Construction Management has its place and is especially useful for fast paced projects or where the client has some reason to maintain a level of flexibility. A competent CM will have a route to cost certainty and a procurement approach that allows for splitting up or combining of work packages if it improves the overall cost/risk position. And from day one the CM is working for the client and not for themselves which isn’t the case with lump sum contractors. It is an acquired taste but many clients and Specialist Trade Contractors prefer it because it is more collegiate and integrated. There are bad CM projects but they are dwarfed by the number of bad MC Aran projects.

Comment on Construction management: worth another look? by Philip Slater https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/sections/long-reads/opinion/construction-management-worth-another-look-03-05-2023/#comment-2000 Wed, 03 May 2023 12:02:53 +0000 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/?p=478581#comment-2000 Interesting read, but I suspect that the scenario in which a client might choose to undertake a construction management form of procurement, unless it is a client with deep pockets and isnt interested in affordability, require the design to be full thought out and developed for the major packages such as the frame and the MEP. If as an industry we want to harness this route than it needs to be with a client that can implement a platform approach.
